D.I.Y TIPS

Always mark out the area of your new conservatory in the garden to the outside brickwork sizes, but remember the internal size will be approximately 260m/m smaller internally for every wall.I.E if the width is 3000 and projection is 3500 externally the inside sizes will be 2480 by 3240 projection.

Always buy the biggest conservatory you can afford.

When buying anything do not take the cheapest price because if you do you may as well put 10 to 15% to one side to make the product up to scratch if you do this you might as well buy something at the right price.

Manholes can be inside the conservatory by changing the cover to a sealed trap cover, but must still have access to rod the drains if they become blocked. A manhole only needs to be moved if the walls are running through it.

Gulleys for waste pipes from sinks and washing machines can have sealed traps put on if they cannot be moved outside the conservatory.

Downpipes for guttering can be usually resited fairly easily.

Flues from gas appliances must be outside the conservatory and not within certain distances depending on the appliance.Occasionally a flue can be vented through a side wall or roof but these things must be checked out by a corgi registered installer.

If the house wall as become porous and the house is in an exposed situation then cavity trays may have to be installed.

When erecting the conservatory put the frames up first but only screw the frames to each other and put a temporary fixing on either side to fix to the house wall. DO NOT PUT ANY OTHER FIXINGS IN AT THIS STAGE. Put the roof on and get as far as putting the polycarbonate in before plumbing the frames down from the roof and levelling and fixing the frames. This is because the roofs are pre- assembled on a perfect flat site with a perpendicular wall, your base will not be as accurate so you will need to move and pack frames for the roof to fit so leave the fixing until last.
